Update March 31, 2026: Since the number of students at the school kept declining, it was closed as of March 31, 2026. We are currently looking for another village that needs and is interested in a school for women.
The mayor of another neighbouring village approached us in April 2023 with the request to open a school in Salme, another suburb of Kispang. Since November 2023, a local teacher, Mrs Bresh Mayu Tamang, has been teaching around 20 pupils in the rooms of the local primary school. Because the women are tied up with bringing up children, housework and working in the fields during the day, lessons have to take place in the evening from 7pm in both summer and winter - a challenge at 2000 metres above sea level in winter!
